Altech does it again

Allied Technologies Limited, Altech, has reported impressive financial results for the six months ended 31 August 2001 and has entered its sixth consecutive year of solid growth, despite continuing global turmoil and local economic uncertainties. Altech donates R600 000 to Soweto Youth Project

JSE listed Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) has donated R600 000 to upgrade facilities at the Soweto Kliptown Youth Centre (SKY). The money was used for the refurbishment of a new dining room area, equipping a technology room and providing a girls’ dormitory and bathroom facility. Altech became involved in the home following an approach to one of its subsidiaries - Altech Radio Holdings – by the initiators of the project, M-Net Cares, Touch Africa and its sister company, Red Cherry Media Holdings.

Altech enters into three-year Communications Contract with SAPS

Police operations in Gauteng have received a major boost, with the closing of a three-year contract with the Altech Group to maintain and upgrade SAPS’ TETRA radio network in the province. Altech subsidiary Altech Alcom Matomo will be responsible for providing Motorola two-way communications equipment, upgrading the TETRA infrastructure, software and ongoing maintenance of the radio network.

Altech further liberalizes telecommunications industry

 Altech was given leave to intervene in the merger proceedings between MTN and Verizon South Africa on the basis of unlawful competition practices identified by an internationally renowned economist and on the basis of MTN's punitive tariffs in respect of VoIP over data at R21,93 rather than R1,75 per megabyte more than 1000%.

Altech granted broadband licence in Rwanda

Allied Technologies Limited today announced that Altech Stream Rwanda Limited, one of its African subsidiaries, has been granted a licence to deliver broadband Internet access services in Rwandan cities. The Altech Stream Rwanda licence, which provides the rights to deliver comprehensive broadband services using both wifi and wimax as well as dedicated spectrum usage rights in 2.5 GHz, 3.5 Ghz and 15GHz bands, also includes the rights for Altech Stream to install it’s own satellite earth-station for direct connection to the world wide web.

Altech Group appoints Laurence Savage as Chief Operating Officer

Allied Technologies Limited (Altech), the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed multibillion-rand technology group, has appointed Laurence Savage to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective January 2013. Mr Savage brings to the group a wealth of experience spanning various industries, including the media, electronics, engineering and automotive sectors. Craig Venter, the Chief Executive Officer of Altech, says he is pleased to welcome Mr Savage to the Altech Group.

Altech Group CEO Applauds Judiciary

Craig Venter, Altech Group CEO, has reiterated his confidence in the judiciary following the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa’s dismissal, with costs, of the recent application of both the Competition Commission of South Africa and Tracetec (Pty) Ltd against Altech Netstar. According to Venter, South Africa is the envy of much of the world when one looks at its justice system, its constitutional democracy, and the separation of powers between Parliament, the Executive and the Judiciary.

Altech group recognised at Technology Top 100 Awards

The Altech group once again received the highest recognition at this year's annual prestigious Technology Top 100 Awards Banquet held at Gallagher Estate on Thursday evening, November 27. Firstly, group subsidiary Netstar received the top award in the Information and Communications Technology : Hardware Sector category. The adjudicators praised Netstar for its outstanding innovation in the creation of a new type of service - vehicle tracking and recovery - through the development of new technology products.

Altech Group welcomes Concourt ruling on Altech Netstar

Craig Venter, Altech Group CEO, has welcomed the Constitutional Court of South Africa’s decision to dismiss the application for leave to appeal by the Competition Commission of South Africa and Tracetec (Pty) Ltd against Altech Netstar and others. In its finding the Constitutional Court indicated that it had considered the application for leave to appeal and had concluded that the application should be dismissed as there were no prospects of success. As such, it issued an order that the application for leave to appeal be dismissed with costs.
