|Altech secures digitalset box decoder|
Altech, the JSE listed R3.1 billion South African electronics giant, has been awarded its largest single order to date for digital set top boxes valued in excess of R220 million. Multichoice Africa, the leading supplier of digital set top box systems in Africa, placed the order with Altech’s subsidiary, UEC Technologies (UEC), one of the world’s foremost suppliers of digital satellite TV access products and software solutions.

|Altech Produces Excellent Results|
JSE listed Altech, South Africa’s leading high-technology group with a turnover in excess of R3,1 billion, has reported excellent results for the half-year ending August 31, 2000. Headline earnings per share are up significantly by 43,3 percent, turnover has improved by 16,6 percent, operating income has risen markedly by 16,7 percent, attributable earnings increased from R66,7 million to R93,4 million and the balance sheet, even after the acquisition of strategic businesses such as Autopage, remains strong.

|Altech's headline earnings up 45,5 %|
Altech’s strategy of globalisation and Telecommunications, Multi-Media and Technology ( IT) (“TMT”) convergence has enabled the group to once again post an excellent set of year-end results, for the fifth consecutive year, despite growing global and local economic uncertainty. At a news conference held in Johannesburg today (Monday), Altech’s Chief Executive Officer, Craig Venter, said he was pleased to announce that group revenue had increased by 21 percent to R3,7 billion and that operating income of R284 million was 32 percent higher than the previous year.

Please be advised that at a function in Johannesburg this afternoon the ALTECH group was selected by the Financial Mail magazine as one of the TOP 20 Companies listed on the JSE Securities Exchange. The ranking was independently carried out by the University of Pretoria’s Bureau of Financial Analysis and covered industrial and financial companies with a market capitalisation of over R1 billion. Allied Technologies Limited, (Altech,) the R4 billion JSE Securities Exchange -listed Telecommunications, Multi-Media and Information Technology (TMT) convergence giant, is exercising its option to sell-off its entire 40 percent share in its partly-owned subsidiary, Alcatel Altech Telecoms (AAT), to the other majority shareholder, Alcatel CIT of France. The remaining 20 percent holding is owned by empowerment group, Rethabile.

Altech Card Solutions (ACS), the wholly-owned smart card subsidiary of the JSE Securities Exchange-listed Allied Technologies Limited (Altech), has acquired the businesses of Cardtronic for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition, which took effect on 1 March 2002, is expected to increase the annual volume of ACS to more than 24 million personalised cards.

|Altech Acquires Prism's Transwitch Services|
Altech, a leading South African JSE Securities Exchange-listed multi-billion Rand high technology group, has entered into an agreement to purchase the country's foremost electronic funds transfer and bill payment processing services business, Prism TranSwitch Services (Pty) Ltd, from Prism Holdings. Subject to certain conditions, the sale of TranSwitch Services (PTSS,) will become effective on 1 December 2002 and has been acquired by Altech for a consideration of R47 million.
