Altech prevails yet again

  Altech announced today that it has been successful in opposing the Minister of Communications, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, in her application for Leave to Appeal against the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) / Value Added Network Services (VANS) judgment, which found in favour of Altech Autopage Cellular, on the 29th of August 2008.

Altech profit up 34%

  Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) today announced remarkable half-year results for the period ended 31 August 2008. Revenue increased by 13% to R4.5 billion, the company’s operating profit increased by 34% to R409 million and headline earnings per share was up by 19% to 261 cents. Altech Chief Executive Officer, Craig Venter commented that the company’s continued strong balance sheet and net asset value of 1 974 cents underpinned the group’s expansion strategy, with notable progress in several areas having been made during the half-year, particularly in Africa.

Altech wins High Court verdict

  Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) announced today that the Pretoria High Court has ruled in favour of Altech Autopage Cellular to the entitlement of having its existing Value Added Network Services (VANS) licence converted into an individual electronic communications network service (I-ECNS) licence enabling the group’s telecommunications subsidiary to develop and operate its own telecommunications network.

Altech and Neotel sign major deal

 Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) announced today that its telecommunications subsidiary, Altech Autopage Cellular, has signed a distribution agreement with Neotel.  The channel partnership affords Altech Autopage Cellular the opportunity to market Neotel’s entire product range, allowing customers to purchase “off the shelf” fixed line, voice and data products.  The partnership, which is effective as of the 27th of August 2008, will provide South Africa’s new teleco

Altron launches its transformation vision 2012

   “The strategy document, Altron Transformation Vision 2012, was adopted by Altron Management on the 3rd of April 2008 at a historic Vision 2012 Altron Conference,” said Onkgopotse JJ Tabane, Altron Group Executive: Corporate Affairs. He said more than 130 delegates from operations across the Altron group adopted a declaration committing themselves to implement  targets that will see all of Altron companies being superior contributors to black economic empowerment  by 2012.

Altech profit up 23%

 Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) announced its results today for the year ended 29 February 2008. Headline earnings per share improved by 23% to 551 cents. Revenue increased by 22% to R 8.2 billion, and operating profit by 17% to R 664 million. Net asset value per share increased from 1863 cents to 2026 cents with cash balances of R 1 591 million reflecting the strength of Altech’s balance sheet. Return on shareholders’ equity remained strong, increasing from 22.7% to 25.4%.

Altech secures major deal

 Allied Technologies Limited (“Altech”) today announced that it has acquired a controlling interest in three subsidiaries of Kenya’s Sameer ICT group for US $85.2 million (approximately R650 million).  The transaction, effective 1 March 2008, sees Altech acquire a 51% controlling interest in Kenya Data Networks Limited (KDN), Swift Global (Kenya) Limited (Swift) and Infocom Limited (Infocom).

Altech shines at Technology Top 100 Awards

 Allied Technologies (Altech) were dominant in the Technology Top 100 Awards at a prestigious awards evening held on Thursday 21st February 2008 at the University of Johannesburg. The event was hosted by the Da Vinci Institute for the Management of Technology and Innovation under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology, with Altech winning three Excellence awards.

Altech appoints Chief Operating Officer

Altech announced today that it recently appointed Andy Baker as Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O.) for the group.  The position filled by the previous Managing Director of Altech Netstar is due to the rapid expansion and global nature of Altech’s business.  Baker, who commenced his duties on the 1st of January this year will report directly to Craig Venter, Chief Executive Officer, and will be responsible for the operational delivery of the group companies.

Altech launches the Altech Academy

Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) has announced today in Midrand that it is to establish a fully accredited education facility for its employees. Altech has now officially launched an educational institution which will provide skills development for Altech’s most precious resource: its people. Through the Altech Academy all employees of Altech will be provided with the chance to further their education and enhance their skills.
